Individual follicles harvested one by one. No linear scar. Natural-looking density.

Follicular Unit Excision (FUE) is a minimally invasive surgical hair restoration technique in which individual follicular units — each containing 1 to 4 hairs — are extracted directly from the donor area using a micro-punch instrument no larger than 0.9mm. Those follicles are then implanted into thinning or balding areas to restore natural density.

Unlike the older strip method (FUT), FUE leaves no linear scar. Each extraction site heals as a tiny dot that becomes invisible within days. This makes FUE ideal for patients who wear their hair short, prefer to avoid a permanent linear scar, or require donor hair from the beard or body.

Dr. Arora's pre-operative scalp conditioning protocol — standard practice in reconstructive surgery, rare in hair transplant settings — increases graft yield and prevents post-operative shock loss. Patients typically see visible growth from month four, with full results emerging over 12–18 months.

Your FUE Recovery and Growth Timeline

Hair transplant results build progressively — here's what to expect at each stage

1

Days 1-10

Initial Healing

Small dot scabs form at extraction sites. Gentle care routine begins, no rubbing of grafts until day 10.

2

Weeks 2-8

Shock Loss Phase

Transplanted hair may shed temporarily while roots establish. This is normal and expected.

3

Months 3-6

New Growth Begins

New hair starts growing from transplanted follicles, initially fine and gradually thickening.

4

Months 6-9

Full Maturation

Transplanted hair reaches full density and caliber. Final results achieved with lifetime permanence.

FUE Hair Transplant Questions

How does FUE differ from the strip method (FUT)?

FUE uses a circular punch (≤0.9mm) to extract individual follicles one at a time, leaving small dot-like scars scattered between remaining hair that aren't directly visible. The strip method removes a 1-1.5cm wide strip from the back of your head, leaving a linear scar that's covered when you wear your hair long. Dr. Arora is equally skilled in both techniques and selects the right approach for each patient based on your specific case - a competent transplant surgeon must be well versed in both methods.

How many grafts can I realistically get in one FUE session?

A typical FUE session involves 3,000-3,500 grafts. Your total scalp can provide 3,000-7,500 grafts across 2-3 sittings. More grafts should be spread over successive days or months apart because placing too many too close together interferes with capillary perfusion and blood supply, leading to poor healing and graft loss. Promising a large number of grafts in a single sitting is unrealistic and risks compromising your result. We prioritize quality and survival over quantity.

Will my donor area look thin or bald after FUE?

No. For every follicle we extract, we leave 3-4 healthy follicles behind. The hair once removed with roots is permanently shifted, but the donor area appears the same because most of your hair remains. The small dot-like scars are scattered between remaining hair and aren't directly visible. However, it's critical not to over-harvest - this is why we carefully assess your total donor capacity and may recommend spreading larger procedures across multiple sessions.

When will I see my final FUE results?

It takes 6-9 months for your transplanted grafts to fully mature. You'll start seeing new growth around month 3, with noticeable improvement by month 6. The transplanted hair will last a lifetime as long as you maintain your care program with supplements, topicals, and proper hygiene. We track your progress with photographic documentation every two months in the same controlled setting to objectively measure your results.

What should I expect during FUE recovery?

FUE recovery is straightforward. Continue antibiotics and pain medications as prescribed. Avoid washing your head for 2 days, then gentle warm showers from day 3. Most importantly: do NOT rub the grafts until day 10 - use a 4-fold towel to gently dab dry. Resume your scalp applications and care program from day 10. Some swelling around the forehead is normal and disappears in 3-5 days. We'll follow up at 48 hours and 10 days, with video conference available if you're traveling from a distance.

Every follicle is placed at the exact angle, direction, and depth that matches your natural growth pattern. That's what separates a transplant from a restoration.
